On Friday Nov 9th I followed an old lady who was pushing an even older gentleman in a wheelchair down the centre of Margaret Grove. She had to move into gaps between cars several times. When I spoke to her, the reason she was doing such a dangerous thing was because the pavements were impassable to the wheelchair because of Amey's excavation work and barriers. I have also heard anecdotal stories of the same problem of mothers with pushchairs along Ravenhurst Road.

Amey are currently in the process of replacing the 3 existing lamp posts in East Pathway with 4 new ones. Yesterday, 12th November, they arrived and disconnected the two existing lights, one at each end of East Pathway, leaving only the single light at the top of Eastway working, but they have not yet connected the new lights. This single light is wholly inadequate to illuminate the ends of East Pathway. At this time of year, without lights at these points, it is extremely difficult, if not dangerous, to navigate around in the total darkness at the ends of East Pathway, especially with Amey's unlit temporary barriers in the way. The elderly residents affected by this are literally trapped. A totally intolerable situation. To disconnect the existing before having the new ones operational is nothing short of stupidity! Anyone with half a brain can work that one out. Pitch dark with no passing traffic is also a invitation to thieves, increasing the potential for burglary and theft of, or from cars. I am hopeful that the new lights will be operational today, but considering that there are no lights fitted to the top of these lamp posts, I'm not holding my breath.

  2. And just to show how perverse the whole thing is, the lights (or at least those still connected) in Margaret Grove were still on at 9am this morning.
